How to choose a cleanroom coverall

A coverall is the main barrier between an operator and the product. Four decisions matter most.

1. Cleanroom classHow clean a room is, by airborne particle count. ISO 14644-1 classes (ISO 5 to 8) or EU GMP grades (A to D).. For EU GMP Grade AThe EU GMP zone for high risk aseptic operations such as filling and making sterile connections. Equivalent to ISO 5 for particles at rest and in operation. and B (ISO 5) areas, Annex 1 calls for a sterile coverall with hood, mask, overboots and gloves, worn so that no skin or hair is exposed. Grade CA clean area for less critical steps in sterile manufacturing, such as solution preparation. ISO 7 at rest and ISO 8 in operation. and D areas can use non-sterile coveralls or two-piece suits.

2. Fabric. Polyester with a conductive carbon grid dissipates static charge, which matters in electronics and where powders or solvents are handled. 100% lint-free polyester suits most other areas.

3. Construction. Look for bound or covered seams, a zip with a storm flap, close-fitting cuffs and ankles, and loops or snaps that hold booties in place.

4. Reprocessing. Reusable garments are laundered and steam sterilised between uses. Our sterile-ready coveralls are designed for repeated steam autoclaving. Garment life always depends on your laundering and sterilisation cycle, so trial and validate before switching.

ISO 8, Grade DThe lowest EU GMP clean area grade, used for support activities such as component handling. ISO 8 at rest. Coverall or suit, head cap, shoe covers
